Research is a central part of Future Farm's potato seed program. There are several key areas of focus to improve the situation of farmers in the region. European varieties are adapted to the climates of Northern Europe and often show poorer performance in the harsher, drier conditions of North Africa and the Middle East. We are therefore focusing on breeding varieties adapted to regional climatic conditions.

We also attempt to decrease inputs from the farmer. The use of mulch film can be very effective in reducing costs associated with irrigation and labour. We also strongly recommend the use of clean, well-germinated seed. Finally, because potato is a fertilizer-intensive crop, we are also exploring rhizosphere-enhancing additives to increase nutrient uptake efficiency.
